Road Tripping: DogWoods Retreat

Road Tripping: DogWoods Retreat

Western North Carolina is great anytime of the year!  But leave the crowds in Asheville.  We've got a better destination in mind; one you and your pooch will fall in love with.

Dogwoods Retreat in Brevard is a paradise for dogs and their people.  Situated on a picturesque mountainside, this destination is a perfect getaway for a long weekend.  Located in Transylvannia County, land of Waterfalls, there are enough sites and activities to keep you and your active dogs occupied for days.

Dogwoods is so dog-friendly, the spacious, two bedroom/two bath cedar cabins come with big comfy dog beds, bowls, towels and poop bags.  And each cabin has a fenced-in, one-acre yard.  You can turn Fido loose and not worry about losing him or your sanity as he runs freely and safely contained.  And best of all, Dogwoods has no breed, size or temperament restrictions.  This little gem of a resort is set-up with dog people in mind.  The cabins include all the home comforts: a fully stocked kitchen, towels and linens, washer & dryer, wireless internet and satellite TV.  The wrap-around porches, views, hot tub and fire pit aren’t bad ammenties either.

A short drive from the cabins is Dupont National Forest which offers miles of hiking, scenic views and incredible waterfalls.  Be sure to stop by the park Visitors Center to view a miniature of the entire forest.  Dogs are welcome on trails as long as they are leashed.

Not to be outdone in dog-friendliness, the nearby village of Brevard is one of the most charming and dog-friendly towns in North Carolina.  Most restaurants offer patio dining to dog-accompanied patrons.  Wait staff will happily bring a bowl of fresh water for your pooch.  Some servers have been known to sneak a tasty morsel from the kitchen to a furry guest that catches their eye.
