Have Dog, Will Travel
About five years ago I casually mentioned to my husband we should take our dog next time we go to Europe. Since Laurent (the Frog) is from France, we travel there often to visit family. Because of the long trip and complications of taking a dog to a foreign country we always left Danny (the Dog) with a sitter. But it pained me to be so far from our pup for weeks at a time. I think I may actually be the one with separation anxiety.
Laurent immediately balked at the idea. "Stuck on a plane for 8 hours?? That's cruel and inhumane. He would never survive it!"
But I was persistent, did my homework and last summer we took Danny to France with us for the first time. And it went very well. In fact, better than we could have ever anticipated. All of the worry and stress over long TSA lines, extra paperwork and difficult customs officials was for nothing.
On January 20th we will take a multi-month sabbatical to Europe which I'll chronicle in this serial blog. Until then I'll post our pre-trip planning efforts here. If you have any questions about pet-friendly travel to Europe, leave a comment below.
